Don't let mini sessions stress you out!
I promise!
Know who you are targeting with your mini session offerings, and consider exactly what you are offering so you will be able to answer questions with confidence. These prompts will assist you in seamlessly promoting and shooting mini sessions this season!
Why do you want to offer mini sessions?
Do you want to grow your client base? Reward consistent clients with an affordable option? Do you simply need more income? Answer this important question before you dive in!
Who is your ideal mini session client?
Now that you know your "why", it should be easy to determine who you want to see at your mini sessions. Be sure to consider time and be clear in your promotion about how much time you are willing to spend per client. If you are offering mini sessions to new clients, you might also consider opening booking to current (or your best) clients first and/or offer a referral discount!
Where will you host your mini sessions?
Will you schedule out a single day or will you give the option of multiple dates? Do you have a studio or are you able to rent a space? Are you partnering with a local business? Remember that a location you're comfortable with and know well will be the easiest on you.
When will you shoot your mini sessions?
If you are not shooting at your personal studio or an easily accessible location, consider commute time. How long will it take you to edit each image? Will your sessions be styled or themed? Don't forget to think about what the weather will be like if you're holding minis outdoors! The spring weather can be quite unpredictable here, for example, but the trees are already blooming in many areas along the East Coast. If you are coordinating your mini sessions with local scenery, be sure you have a plan in place that factors in Mother Nature's many moods. Your terms should be clear, as well (do you need to set a rain date? are you taking a deposit? is the deposit transferable?).
What is included?
I encourage you to think outside of your normal business box and set up a package that is totally different from your regular packages. This will make it more likely that you will turn a profit. Do you have clients who want more images or items once they've seen their amazing photos? Fantastic! Make sure you allow for those who will want a more expensive package. Be sure to keep items and offerings simple, though. You don't want to spend too much of your valuable time assembling involved or large products.
How will you present proofs and how many proofs will you show your mini session clients? Don't devalue your full sessions!
