In this day and age, it's becoming even more important to find time, away from the business of life, to gather with family and friends to enjoy laughs, drinks and great food.
If you're anything like me, you're always looking for fun and affordable ways to get your family and friends out and about, whether it's for holidays, birthdays, a girls' night out, or any excuse really! Well, we called a friend and are here to introduce you to a few savvy business and more important, philanthropic, women, who really, need no introduction! But in case you are new to town or haven't had a chance to stop into one of our favorite local spots, Meet Amy Davock, Keri Davock, and Jodi Furtado, of Market St. Pub & Grill. They're here to answer some of our burning questions about owning a business, how they "FOCAL LOCAL", and everything in between!
Tracy Sweeney (TS): Thank you for spending some time with us! Where can our readers find your business?
Amy Davock (AD): Market St. Pub & Grill is located at 99 Market St., Warren, RI, 02885.
TS: Briefly walk us through your story. How did you get started?
AD: My sisters and I took over the business from our parents and Aunt Karen, in January of 2017. All of us have always been a part of Market St. Pub, and all worked there at different points in our lives, over the past 25 years. Some of the patrons are still the same. We wouldn't be where we are without our "regulars" - they got us through some very slow times. We may have changed the look but our motto remains the same.
TS: Tell us about your business. What are you most proud of?
AD: Market St. Pub is a family oriented place; our friends all bring their children in to visit. We have delicious homemade pizza, wing nights, and $1 tacos on Thursdays. We're known as a happy bunch! If you're having a bad day, come in and we'll make you smile! Growing up, we didn't always have a lot so we want to lend a hand whenever we can. We host turkey drives, coat drives, and fundraisers for local people in need. We try to "FOCAL LOCAL", as I call it. Sometimes it's very overwhelming watching what goes on in the world, so we put our hearts and souls into the community.
TS: Has the road to success been smooth?
AD: When you run a business, things can go wrong at any time. Our parents are there to guide us and always have been. Our dad can "fix" almost anything! He has been in this business longer than anyone I know; he's an extremely intelligent man and always has our backs.
TS: Is there anything you'd like us to share?
AD: Follow us on Facebook to see our many upcoming events! We host a paint or craft session a few times a month, and pasta dinners to raise money for youth sports. The holidays are around the corner and our biggest event is Mistletoe Market. We have over 25 local vendors in our building for a shopping extravaganza! It really makes us happy that it's beneficial to everyone, and we always have the most amazing turnout.
TS: What advice do you have for a female business owner who is starting her journey?
AD: It's a whole new world. Women are conquering things we might not have dreamed of 50 years ago. If you have a vision, make it happen. "If you build it, they will come," is a really wonderful outlook. Don't ever let someone tell you, "This cannot be done," or, "This is a terrible idea"!
Thank you, Amy! You can find Market St. Pub & Grill on Facebook and contact them via Facebook Messenger.
